Jamie Shea, the former NATO spokesperson during the Kosovo war, said that it is disappointing that, even though 26 years have passed, Serbia has still not apologized for the crimes committed in Kosovo.

“Many of the figures in the Serbian government today came to political life during the nationalist era of Milosevic and have inherited his distorted view of Serbian and Yugoslav history. However, many Serbs in the opposition and in civil society know the truth, and I have not lost hope that in the future a joint Serbian-Kosovar commission will be established for historical truth and accountability. Milosevic was indicted by the ICTY for war crimes in Kosovo, and this process also gathered many pieces of evidence. Even Vučić went to Srebrenica on the anniversary of July a few years ago. So, let’s insist,” he said in an interview with RTKlive.

Shea also commented on the current security situation in the region.

“The situation in the region is currently tense due to the obstinate resistance of Milorad Dodik in the Republic of Srpska in Bosnia to cooperate with the state institutions after his conviction by the High Court in Sarajevo. Also, the Serbian government has just resigned following the largest demonstrations ever seen in the country against a sitting government. We also have the impact of the terrible nightclub tragedy in North Macedonia, which we hope will not have destabilizing political consequences. However, NATO is monitoring the situation closely, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has just visited Bosnia and Kosovo and consulted with KFOR. The situation in the region currently does not offer much hope for immediate political progress, but NATO, working closely with the EU, will ensure that the overall security environment is maintained,” he declared.
