Six Arrested in Obiliq for Cemetery Vandalism, Majority Are Minors

Kosovo Police have arrested six individuals on suspicion of damaging graves and human remains, in an incident that has raised serious concerns within the local community.

According to an official police statement, the incident occurred on Saturday in the village of Plemetin, located in the municipality of Obiliq.

Following investigative actions, police officers identified and detained six suspects, five of whom are minors. Authorities stated that there is reasonable suspicion that all six individuals were directly involved in the act of vandalism.

“Police investigative work resulted in the identification and arrest of six suspects (five minors), for whom there is reasonable suspicion of involvement in the case. By decision of the prosecutor, the suspects have been placed in detention,” the Kosovo Police statement said.

The case is being handled under the offense of damage to cemeteries or human remains, a crime considered particularly serious due to its violation of public order, dignity, and cultural and religious values.

Authorities emphasized that further investigative and legal procedures will continue in accordance with the law, while reiterating their commitment to addressing acts that undermine public peace and respect for the deceased.
