The newly installed road signs on the Skopje-Tetovo highway have sparked controversy as they now appear only in Macedonian, English, and French, excluding Albanian—a departure from previous multilingual signage.

The Public Enterprise for State Roads has not provided an official explanation for the removal of Albanian from the signs, which were reportedly replaced late Saturday night.

The move has drawn strong condemnation from Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), who called it a blatant violation of the Law on the Use of Languages and an attack on the status of the Albanian language in North Macedonia.

BDI has demanded an immediate reversal of the decision, calling it an unacceptable regression in minority rights within the country.
