Slovak President Peter Pellegrini is expected to visit Slovak soldiers serving in Kosovo on Sunday (December 21) as part of the NATO-led international mission, KFOR.

This was confirmed to the Slovak news agency TASR by the Communications Department of the Office of the President, which noted that the visit is part of the president’s traditional pre-Christmas trips to meet members of the Slovak Armed Forces deployed abroad.

According to the statement, family members of soldiers who have requested an extension of their service in the mission will also take part in the visit.

“Beyond its official dimension, the visit will also have a special family aspect, as a sign of respect and support not only for the soldiers, but also for their families,” the statement said.

After meeting with the Slovak contingent in Kosovo, President Pellegrini will travel to Belgrade, where he will conduct an official visit to Serbia—the first by a Slovak head of state in 16 years.

According to the Slovak President’s Office, the visit is part of a series of trips across the Western Balkans, aimed at expressing Slovakia’s long-term support for the region’s European integration.

Discussions with Serbian state officials in Belgrade are expected to focus on the development of bilateral relations, the EU integration process of Western Balkan countries, and current geopolitical challenges.
