Slovakia Joins KFOR Contributing Nations, Reinforcing Security in Kosovo

A flag-raising ceremony was held today at the headquarters of the NATO-led KFOR mission in Camp Film City, Prishtina, to welcome the Republic of Slovakia as the newest troop-contributing nation to the mission.

With this addition, the total number of troops in KFOR has reached over 4,700 soldiers from 33 different countries. Six of these nations have joined in the last year and a half, including France and Portugal in January and September 2024, as well as Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands last month.

The Commander of KFOR, Major General Enrico Barduani, presided over the ceremony and emphasized that Slovakia’s participation reinforces the enduring commitment of the Atlantic Alliance to sustainable security in Kosovo and regional stability.

“KFOR remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens and communities in Kosovo, in accordance with the United Nations mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244, working in close cooperation with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo – EULEX,” the statement read. “Slovakia joins KFOR as a troop-contributing nation.”
