Slovenian Member of the European Parliament Irena Joveva has criticized Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for attending an election rally in support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s political list in Novi Sad.

Fico attended the rally on October 16, where he expressed support for the Serbian Progressive Party’s electoral list, “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia,” and praised what he described as the Serbian authorities’ policy of bringing people together.

Joveva, who serves as vice-president of the Renew Europe political group in the European Parliament, criticized Fico’s appearance in a post on X.

“Out of the 27 EU member states, Vučić somehow managed to find precisely that corrupt autocrat and opponent of the EU who was willing to come to Serbia and support his campaign. Birds of a feather flock together — that is certainly true,” Joveva wrote.

She added that, in her view, one of the two leaders would leave power the following week, while the other would follow not long afterward.

Fico’s participation in the rally drew attention to the political ties between the Slovak prime minister and Vučić ahead of Serbia’s elections. The Slovak leader’s remarks at the event included praise for the Serbian authorities’ approach, which he characterized as unifying.
