The Slovenian National Day was commemorated today with a ceremony held at KFOR Headquarters in “Film City” Camp in Pristina. The event was presided over by KFOR Commander Major General Enrico Barduani and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Kosovo, Minca Benedejčič.

Commemorating Independence and Slovenian Contributions

June 25, known as Statehood Day, marks the historic decision made by the Slovenian people in 1991 to declare independence. As noted by General Barduani, this was “a true act of courage that helped shape the future of their nation.”

General Barduani expressed his gratitude to the Slovenian soldiers for their contributions to KFOR and their “unwavering commitment to the stability and security of Kosovo.” Ambassador Benedejčič, reflecting on her nation’s “long and unwavering struggle for freedom,” conveyed her “deepest respect and appreciation for the Slovenian contingent’s steadfast dedication to peace.”

KFOR’s Ongoing Mandate

KFOR continues to implement its mandate, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, to contribute to a secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and to ensure freedom of movement, at all times and in an impartial manner.

KFOR works in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) in their respective roles as security responders.
