Large-scale protests under the slogan “Serbia, can you hear us?” have erupted across several cities in Serbia, sparked by violations of university autonomy and growing concerns over police brutality.
Tonight, the gendarmerie intervened near the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad.
According to reports from N1, the violent police action began suddenly against citizens who had gathered peacefully. At one point, a loud explosion was heard, after which the gendarmerie advanced, using rubber batons.
The gendarmerie pushed protesters toward the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (PMF) and further toward the river. Witnesses reported strong explosions and the use of tear gas.
The Ministry of Interior claimed it had received information that participants in the unregistered gathering in Novi Sad had planned to attack police stationed in front of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education.
These protests, ongoing for months, are part of a broader movement against the rule of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
