As per a decision by the Municipality of Milan, smoking will be banned in outdoor public spaces across the city starting January 1, 2025.
The ban will specifically apply to streets, courtyards, and outdoor areas of restaurants and cafes. The only exception will be designated isolated smoking areas, where each smoker must maintain a “free space” with no other individuals within a radius of at least ten meters.
Fines for those who violate the new rules will range from 40 to 250 euros. The Municipality of Milan clarified that the new restriction applies only to “traditional cigarettes,” not electronic ones.
