The vote-counting process from the May 11 elections is ongoing, while preliminary results from 30% of polling stations confirm a victory for the Socialist Party (PS), which is advancing toward a fourth governing term, reports Rks News.
So far, 2,307 out of 5,225 polling stations have been counted, and PS has secured 52.6% of the votes, translating to 83 seats in Parliament.
The Democratic Party – Alliance for Greater Albania coalition, led by Sali Berisha, has experienced a significant drop, with only 34.4% of the vote and 50 seats—13 fewer than in 2021.
In the largest electoral district, Tirana, PS leads with 48.8% of the vote and 19 seats. PD-ASHM ranks second with 34.4% and just 13 seats—a decline of 4. Meanwhile, Agron Shehaj’s party “Mundësia” has surprised observers by garnering 4.9% and winning 2 seats.
Other Parties in Parliament:
- Social Democratic Party: 4% – 3 seats
- “Shqipëria Bëhet” Initiative: 3.3% – 1 seat
- Mundësia Party: 2.7% – 2 seats
- Lëvizja Bashkë: 1.3% – 1 seat
Strong PS Gains in Key Districts:
- Dibër: PS overturns the result, winning 3 seats with 58.2%, PD drops to 2.
- Elbasan: PS wins 10 seats (+2) with 61.3%, PD drops to 4.
- Fier: PS increases to 12 seats (from 9 in 2021), PD falls from 7 to 4.
- Lezhë: PS overturns the result, wins 4 seats, PD down to 3.
- Shkodër: PS takes 4 seats (+1), PD drops to 5 (-1).
Only 1,660 of the 194,889 diaspora ballots have been counted so far. Preliminary results from the diaspora show a tight race:
- Democratic Party (PD): 43.95%
- Socialist Party (PS): 42.68%
