The European Union’s Special Envoy for the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, held a meeting in Brussels on Monday with Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, Rks News reports.

The discussion focused on a number of key issues related to the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Sorensen announced that preparations are underway to organize a trilateral meeting soon.

“I welcomed Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, for a preparatory meeting ahead of a trilateral dialogue session today in Brussels. We discussed a broad range of important issues related to normalization. We plan to organize a trilateral meeting soon,” Sorensen wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Bislimi stated that although a trilateral session had been planned, it did not take place due to logistical problems with the Serbian delegation.

“A trilateral meeting was expected, but it couldn’t happen because of complications with Serbia’s team, which failed to arrive in Brussels due to delays in Vienna or something similar,” Bislimi told the media.

In the same context of international engagement in Kosovo, the Commander of NATO’s KFOR mission, Major General Enrico Barduani, met with H.E. Hiroyasu Tanigaki, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan 🇯🇵 in Kosovo. This was the first meeting between the KFOR commander and the Japanese diplomat and provided an important opportunity to exchange views on the current security situation in Kosovo. H.E. Tanigaki emphasized KFOR’s key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region, while General Barduani reaffirmed KFOR’s unwavering commitment to supporting all international efforts for long-term security and regional stability.

KFOR continues to implement its mandate—based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999)—to maintain a safe and secure environment for all communities in Kosovo and to ensure freedom of movement at all times, impartially. It works in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and EULEX, according to their respective roles in the security chain.
