The EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, spoke briefly to journalists after his meeting with President Vjosa Osmani at the Presidency.
Reflecting on a year that was almost lost for the dialogue process, Sorensen said he remains optimistic for the new year, according to Rks News.
“I have great hope, personally, that 2026 will bring us what 2025 did not. That is why I am starting the year of work with a trip here, and then later this week to Belgrade,” he said.
Sorensen noted that he would only answer one short question due to time constraints.
When asked when a high-level meeting would take place, the EU envoy said that there is a commitment from the High Representative that such a meeting will be organized when the time is right.
“What we will do is what has been asked of us by the international community in facilitating the dialogue — to ensure that both parties sit down and talk. So we will need to find a way for this to happen. The High Representative visited Belgrade and Pristina last year. There are commitments that a meeting will take place when the time is right. She will convene the meeting. People will come, and we will see. But we will need to see,” Sorensen explained.
He emphasized that January is an ideal moment for a new start in the dialogue process.
