The European Union Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, has declared that he is ready to resume meetings and launch the joint commission on missing persons once both parties demonstrate readiness.
The latest round of negotiations in Brussels, held on Friday, ended without any concrete progress at the chief negotiators’ level. Similar to previous sessions, both sides exchanged mutual accusations over the lack of willingness to implement the agreement.
Serbia continues to insist on the immediate implementation of the agreement on the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities, while the Kosovo side demands the full implementation of the Basic Agreement, with special emphasis on the commission for missing persons, according to Kosovo’s chief negotiator Besnik Bislimi.
In this regard, Sorensen acknowledged the failure to inaugurate the joint commission, without giving further details.
“Yesterday in Brussels, I hosted the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia for bilateral and trilateral talks on the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement and the issue of missing persons. Unfortunately, the inaugural meeting of the joint commission did not take place. I am ready to continue as soon as the parties are prepared,” Sorensen wrote on X, where he also shared photos from the meetings.
