Three Albanian men have died in a car accident during an attempt to evade police pursuit. Spanish media report that the Albanians, suspected of attempting to rob a pharmacy in Malaga, collided with the vehicle of a police officer who was returning home from work. The officer became the fourth victim of this tragic accident.
Spanish media indicate that the group of Albanians had committed over 10 robberies since February of this year. They are also suspected of robberies carried out at fire stations.
The incident began after an attempted robbery at a pharmacy on “Lope de Rueda” street in the Puerto de la Torre neighborhood. The three robbers, believed to be members of a known Albanian gang, attempted to rob the pharmacy but failed and quickly fled in a powerful vehicle. National Police and local police immediately initiated a pursuit.
During their escape, the robbers made a wrong turn, entering the A-7 highway against traffic, heading towards Torremolinos. It was there that the fatal collision occurred with the car of a 48-year-old sub-inspector, who was not participating in the police operation but was returning home after a night shift.
The powerful collision caused both vehicles to erupt in flames. According to authorities from the Malaga City Council, firefighters from Churriana, Carretera de Cádiz, and Martiricos stations immediately arrived at the scene to extract the bodies from the burned vehicles. The three occupants of the robbers’ car were found dead, while local police officers pulled the sub-inspector from his car, but tragically could not save his life.
The deceased sub-inspector was a father of two children and had over 20 years of service. Sources close to the investigation explain that the officer was not part of the police operation to apprehend the criminals.
