A ski lift malfunction in the Astun ski resort in Spain’s Pyrenees Mountains has resulted in at least 30 injuries. The accident occurred when the cable fell off and the lift suddenly stopped, causing it to jerk and sway, causing some passengers to fall from their seats. Medical assistance was provided to those affected.
The emergency service confirmed that ten people required hospitalization, with two individuals suffering serious injuries, while the rest had minor injuries.
Around 80 skiers were left stranded in the lift seats, which had been dislodged due to the malfunction. Social media footage showed people lying in the snow beneath the lift.
Rescue teams, including several helicopters, were dispatched to lower people still seated in the lift to safety and to transport the injured to hospitals.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed shock at the incident, offering his support to the victims and their families.
