On Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, emphasized that “there is war even where it seems there is peace” and that “the entire world is in battle—a war with many faces and manifestations.”
Spiropali noted that “freedom and independence of any country are never guaranteed,” as “they can be threatened by many factors,” adding that “hostility toward peace is humanity’s fatal flaw.”
Recalling August 24, 1991, when the Ukrainian Parliament restored the country’s independence, the Speaker highlighted that over the past three decades, Ukraine has experienced a long transition—freedom accompanied by insecurity and challenges, progress, and fractures—but nothing compares to the aggression that began in 2014 and escalated in February 2022, when a former empire sought to reassert authority over a free country, causing massive human losses and a global crisis.
Spiropali also underscored that Albania has remained unwavering in support of Ukraine from day one.
“Albania has been steadfast in enforcing sanctions against Russia and providing economic and military support to Ukraine. By defending Ukraine, we defend the democracies of our countries,” she said.
