Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, stated that Kosovo deserves candidate country status in the EU, without double standards or endless delays.

During her official visit to Kosovo and after meeting First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca, Spiropali emphasized that Kosovo is the absolute priority of Albania’s foreign policy, closely linked to developments in both Albania and Kosovo. She also announced preparations for an intergovernmental meeting.

“The relationship between Albania and Kosovo is not an ordinary chapter of our diplomacy. It is the continuation of a shared journey, built on sacrifice, resilience, and historical determination for national progress. Kosovo is the absolute priority of Albania’s foreign policy, closely connected to internal developments in Albania and Kosovo. This is not rhetoric or a diplomatic formula—it is a stable strategic state orientation. Strengthening Kosovo’s international subjectivity is a direct national interest of Albania and also a matter of the heart. Every new recognition, every new membership, every step toward Kosovo’s international consolidation is an investment in the security, dignity, and stability of the entire Albanian space,” she said.

Spiropali also addressed EU measures, stressing the need for Kosovo’s advancement:

“Certainly, removing restrictive measures was an absolute necessity, and we have made it clear that measures against Kosovo were counterproductive. I believe the time has come to openly declare that Kosovo deserves candidate status, without double standards or endless waiting. Europe, which seeks trust from the region, must demonstrate credibility in its decisions. Albania continues its path toward full membership in the European Union,” she concluded.
