The spokesman of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, yesterday, May 1, held a daily conference, where the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica was also discussed.
Dujarric informed the public about numerous topics related to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and in the part of the conference for journalists’ questions, the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica was also discussed.
When asked directly what Guterres thinks about the resolution, Dujarric clearly answered that for the UN, the genocide in Srebrenica is a fact judged by the court.
“Member states will adopt resolutions on various topics and vote on them as needed. As for this particular issue, the fact that there was genocide in Bosnia is legally recognized. And we are always talking here, if you are wondering about the genocide in different countries, if it is recognized by the court, it is a fact, as far as we are concerned, so those facts have not changed for us”, said Dujarric.
On the second question whether the adoption of a resolution on the Srebrenica genocide is a good idea, the answer was in a different tone.
“I didn’t say it was a good idea and I didn’t say it was a bad idea. I said that the member countries will do what they do with their wisdom. I expressed our position, you can compare, compare and analyze”, explained the spokesman of the UN Secretary General.
As a reminder, the resolution on the Srebrenica genocide is due before the UN General Assembly in mid-May, although the exact date is not yet known. The authors of the resolution are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and Rwanda and the co-sponsors are Slovenia, the United States of America, Italy, France, Chile, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Turkey.
