Mihailo Brkić, vice president of the opposition party Serbia Centre (SRCE), said that allegations that cocaine was stored in the Serbian Embassy in Lisbon in 2020 could harm Serbia’s international reputation and send a negative foreign policy signal.

Speaking in the podcast “U centar”, Brkić stated that it was “unlikely” that the then Serbian ambassador to Portugal, Oliver Antić, was unaware of the alleged use of the embassy building as a location to store narcotics. Antić died in 2022 after falling from a cliff near Cascais, Portugal.

According to Brkić, the allegations emerged after recently revealed Sky ECC encrypted communications from criminal networks in Montenegro.

Such developments raise serious doubts and cast a negative image, not only regarding the functioning of the diplomatic network but also in terms of foreign policy perception. These kinds of situations are certainly not good for a country’s international reputation,” Brkić said.

The Montenegrin newspaper Vijesti reported on March 3 that members of criminal organizations using the Sky communication system allegedly discussed hiding cocaine shipments inside the Serbian Embassy in Lisbon.

The claims have not been independently confirmed, and Serbian authorities have not issued an official response regarding the allegations.
