The Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) stated today that Serbia’s Minister of Education, Dejan Vuk Stanković, despite being responsible for over one million students and teachers, behaves as if he were “Vučić’s private minister — tasked with hugging and kissing hired thugs in front of the National Assembly, who attack students, citizens, and journalists.”

The statement adds that Stanković will not be remembered only for withholding salaries from education workers or damaging schools that have existed for more than 150 years, but above all for being a minister who stayed silent in the face of violence against high school and university students.

“No act will ever erase this shame from his biography,” said Nataša Zečević, head of SSP’s Education Committee.

She stressed that Stanković remains silent while masked attackers throw smoke bombs and stun grenades at students of Belgrade’s Sports Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, “Vučić’s minister of retaliation loudly defends party-appointed school directors, but does not even consider condemning the police when they beat students with batons, fists, and shields.”
