18 months without a high-level meeting – the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia has come to a standstill. Peter Sorensen’s first visit to Pristina, as the European Union’s envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, came at a time when this process does not seem to be on anyone’s agenda. For this issue, he also traveled to Serbia yesterday.
European Union spokesperson, Anitta Hipper, stated that Sorensen is making his first visit to Belgrade and will be there until tomorrow.
“We continue our engagement. The EU envoy for the dialogue, Peter Sorensen, is making his first visit to Belgrade. He will be there until Wednesday. When it comes to the dialogue, we are committed to ensuring that the path toward the EU for both parties goes through a facilitated dialogue. This is where we are at this stage,” Hipper said.
When asked about cooperation between the EU and the U.S. regarding the Western Balkans issue and the dialogue, Hipper said that “the EU works with all partners, including the U.S.”
She added that there have been contacts with the new U.S. administration but did not wish to go into further details.
