UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has defended his government’s decision not to involve British troops in the war with Iran, emphasizing that the United Kingdom’s priority is protecting its citizens and interests in the Middle East.

Speaking about the conflict, Starmer said British armed forces are already actively working to safeguard security in the region.

“Our armed forces are working day and night to protect British lives and British interests in the Middle East,” he said.

According to Starmer, the Royal Air Force has carried out more than 230 hours of defensive operations over several locations in the region. During these missions, British forces have intercepted multiple drones, helping protect both British personnel and allied forces.

The remarks come amid growing international tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran, with several Western allies debating the extent of their military involvement. Starmer’s comments signal that the United Kingdom intends to maintain a defensive role rather than directly joining the war.
