British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the United Kingdom will continue to “engage constructively” in international relations but emphasized that his stance on Greenland is “absolutely clear.”

Speaking on the matter, Starmer reiterated that:

“The future of Greenland belongs solely to the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark,”

dismissing any foreign interference.

He also claimed that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s criticisms of the UK’s agreement on the Chagos Islands were intended to pressure him into changing his position on Greenland. According to Starmer, Trump’s comments on Chagos contrasted with the supportive positions he had previously expressed during a White House meeting.

“President Trump used these statements with the clear intention of pressuring me and Britain regarding my values and principles for Greenland’s future,” Starmer said.

He added that Trump wants him to back down from his stance, but firmly stated:

“I will not do that.”
