Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama didn’t miss the chance to joke with his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, during the European Political Community Summit taking place in Tirana. With humor, Rama blamed the UK Prime Minister for the heavy rain that accompanied the summit day, writes Rks News.
“You brought such heavy rain,” Rama said, addressing Starmer as the cause of the downpour, right after he stepped out of the car. He repeated the same joke during the summit’s opening speech before handing the floor to the British Prime Minister.
Starmer, well aware of his country’s reputation for rainy weather, responded with equal humor: “When I landed yesterday morning, it was sunny, so these rumors blaming the British for the weather are completely wrong.”
Despite the weather jokes, Rama called Starmer’s visit historic, emphasizing that he is “the first UK Prime Minister ever to come to Albania for a bilateral visit.”
In conclusion, Starmer highlighted the importance of the meeting: “You brought us together, Edi, and this is a very important meeting and a key moment for our continent.”
