A few weeks ago, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated in an interview with the public broadcaster that he could not give the position of Speaker of the Parliament to a party with only three deputies, such as the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), especially since it is in coalition with the parties Alternativa and Guxo, the latter having six deputies.

Responding to Kurti’s statement, Jeta Statovci, a deputy from the Guxo List, spoke on Wednesday during the “Ditari” show on Tëvë. She said that as a political subject, they had been open to discussions about representation in the executive branch.

However, Statovci also noted that within Guxo’s internal discussions, it was considered that the Speaker’s position belongs to the largest party in the country, Vetëvendosje.

“We have discussed several times the basis for our selection, which is rooted in citizen legitimacy as well as gender balance, which we consider important. Additionally, the Constitution guides us regarding representation, proposals, and delegation, which are made by the largest and winning political subject. Given their political strength—and we as Guxo being partners with six deputies, while Nisma holds three deputies in the Kosovo Assembly—we have been open to discussions about executive representation. However, the question of the Speaker’s position has been discussed without a final verdict, as it is also understood internally that this role belongs to the largest party in the country,” she said.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the 26th attempt to constitute the Kosovo Assembly failed again, as the candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement for Speaker, Albulena Haxhiu, once again did not receive the necessary support.

The next constitutive session of the Assembly is scheduled for June 5, since June 2 is the official holiday of Kurban Bajram.
