A new round of negotiations involving Ukrainian and Russian delegations is expected to take place within the next three weeks and could potentially lead to a high-level summit, according to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Speaking on Sunday, Witkoff described the conflict as a “ridiculous war” over territory but expressed hope that diplomatic proposals put forward by him and Jared Kushner could help bring both sides to the table.
“We hope that we’ve put forward proposals for both parties that will bring them together over the next three weeks and possibly even result in a summit between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Vladimir Putin. It could even lead to a trilateral meeting at some point with President Donald Trump. We’ll have to see,” Witkoff said.
According to Witkoff, Trump would only participate in such a meeting if he believes it could produce meaningful results. He also voiced optimism that the world could hear “good news” on the matter in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Zelensky previously stated that the next round of peace talks should be held in Geneva within ten days.
On February 18, trilateral talks involving representatives from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia concluded in Geneva.
