Ivana Stradner, a security and information expert, as well as an observer of political developments in the Western Balkans, has shared insights about a remarkable move made by the U.S. Embassy in Serbia.

She revealed how the embassy published a video discussing the Russian company Gazprom’s operations in Serbia.

According to Stradner, the embassy’s video highlights how Russia and Gazprom treat Serbia as a slave and a machine to generate profit.

“Yesterday, @USEmbassySerbia posted a brilliant video on Instagram exposing 🇷🇺 Gazprom and how they treat Serbia as a slave and a machine to make money,” Stradner wrote.

She mentioned that she followed Russian media reactions to this move by the embassy and observed that they were “outraged” by the video shared on the U.S. Embassy’s page in Serbia.

“Russian media and the 🇷🇺 Embassy are so enraged. Moscow’s inability to control its emotions is the West’s greatest asset,” she added.

Russian gas giant Gazprom, which is not on the U.S. or European Union’s sanctions lists, has held a monopoly on the Serbian gas market for more than a quarter of a century.

Even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which disrupted the global energy market, the European Union repeatedly warned Serbia to diversify its energy sources and open its gas market to other suppliers.

The latest gas delivery agreement, signed between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the Ukrainian invasion in May 2022, expires in March 2025.
