A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck the island of Crete in Greece earlier this afternoon.

According to preliminary data, the tremor occurred at 16:26 local time, approximately 54 kilometers west of Chania, Crete, at a depth of 47 kilometers.

The quake was reportedly felt by several residents near the epicenter, especially in smaller towns and villages, which may have experienced stronger shaking, Greek media report.

So far, no damage or injuries have been reported, but authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
