A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the sea north of the Greek island of Crete early this morning, prompting a tsunami warning, according to the Geodynamic Institute in Athens. The tremor was also felt in Athens, and part of a building collapsed in central Heraklion..

The quake occurred at 6:19 AM local time, with its epicenter located 56 kilometers north of Neapoli, as reported by Kathimerini. The initial data estimate the focal depth at 60.3 kilometers.

Fire and emergency services are on high alert.
