Strong Earthquake Strikes U.S.–Canada Border

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck a remote region along the border between Alaska (USA) and Yukon (Canada) on Thursday.

According to The Guardian, no tsunami warning was issued, and authorities confirmed that no injuries or damages have been reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake’s epicenter was recorded at a depth of about 10 km, roughly 370 km northwest of Juneau, Alaska, and 250 km west of Whitehorse, Yukon. The main shock was followed by several smaller aftershocks.

Residents in Yakutat, Alaska, about 91 km away and home to around 662 people, also felt the tremors.
