In several Serbian cities, students and citizens have begun gathering in public squares this evening, marking the fifth consecutive day of protests against President Aleksandar Vučić.

In Novi Sad, demonstrators assembled in front of the university rectorate under the slogan: “The trash is falling – the people rule.” In Niš, residents planned to start their protest at 9 PM at Crveni Pevac.

For the first time, citizens of Novi Bečej in northern Serbia called for a demonstration outside the offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). A police cordon was deployed to guard the building.

Meanwhile, Vučić responded by sending a convoy of armored police vehicles toward New Belgrade. Earlier today, four students were detained and remain in police custody.

Protests were also announced in Kruševac and Leskovac.

The latest wave of demonstrations was triggered by incidents in Vojvodina on August 12, when government supporters attacked protesters with fireworks. The situation further escalated after protesters accused the police of failing to intervene.

The police, however, denied these allegations, claiming they had successfully prevented larger riots.
