Students involved in nationwide university blockades are launching today a large-scale campaign to collect signatures demanding the calling of early parliamentary elections in Serbia. Citizens will be able to sign the petition at more than 400 stands across over 100 cities and municipalities throughout the country.

According to information published on the students’ official website, the action—titled “Call the Victory”—will begin mostly in the early morning hours, with some locations opening as early as 7:00 a.m. A detailed list of locations and schedules has been made publicly available.

“Come and call the victory together. Sign the decision. Become an election monitor. Raise awareness in your community,” the students said in their announcement, adding that collective action will continue in the coming days.

A ‘Broad Front for Justice and Systemic Change’

The students emphasize that signing the petition means more than symbolic support. Those who sign will:

  • Receive early information about upcoming student actions
  • Serve as a link between the movement and their local communities
  • Become part of a broader effort to reform the political system

They describe the initiative as the creation of a “broad front in the struggle for justice and systemic change.”

Strong Public Support Claimed

Over the past two weeks, students also conducted a door-to-door campaign, particularly highlighted by participants from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade.

According to their data:

  • Nearly 9,000 households were visited
  • Around 71% of residents were willing to engage in conversation
  • 91.8% supported the students’ demands
  • 95.7% believe systemic corruption is destroying the country
  • 89.5% support the call for early parliamentary elections

“When nine out of ten citizens support early elections and the authorities refuse to allow them, the numbers are clearly on our side,” the students said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“This is just the beginning. We are ready to travel across the entire country.”

Political Context

Students across Serbia have been demanding snap parliamentary elections since May. Meanwhile, President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that elections will be held in 2026, without confirming whether they will take place in May or December.
