Students in Mitrovica in the north of Kosovo are organizing a “16 minutes of silence” today in honor of the victims in Novi Sad. The demonstration is set to take place at 6:00 PM in the city square near the Prince Lazar monument.

This will be the 12th demonstration in Mitrovica North, a show of respect for the victims in Novi Sad and a show of solidarity with Serbian students who have been protesting for months. Serbian students have been blocking nearly all state universities in Serbia following the tragic death of 16 individuals, killed when a railway station shelter collapsed on them.

In some protests, students have also been joined by professors. Although the University in Mitrovica North is not under blockade, a group of students have publicly expressed their solidarity by participating in the large protests in Kragujevac, Niš, and the most recent major demonstration in Belgrade.

In December, four professors from the University of Mitrovica North publicly supported the students. Following that, seven additional professors started an online petition, which has been signed by 360 professors, assistants, and students from the university.
