White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Iran “chose the path of violence” and is now facing the consequences.
She was also asked about the reported selection of a successor to Ali Khamenei, following claims that his eldest son had been chosen the day before.
Leavitt emphasized that it is still too early to comment definitively, saying the United States will wait to see what unfolds and what approach the new leadership may take. She added that the administration hopes “freedom and democracy will come to the Iranian people.”
According to remarks reported by the BBC, Leavitt further indicated that the objective of the U.S.–Israel campaign against Iran includes regime change.
The comments come amid heightened tensions in the region and growing uncertainty over Iran’s political future.
