In Missouri, USA, recent extreme temperatures have caused a rare and dangerous incident: a sudden crack in the asphalt appeared directly in front of a moving vehicle, RKS News reports.

According to local media, the driver who escaped unharmed said he was still shaken by the experience.

“I didn’t even have time to react,” he said.
“I just saw the road split open in front of me and had no idea what was happening. Then I realized it was a crack in the asphalt.”

Missouri transportation authorities have issued warnings about similar risks due to record-breaking heat, which has caused road deformations across parts of the state.
