The Basic Court in Pristina has on Thursday ordered a one-month detention for two men, who were arrested the day before on suspicion of espionage. In a press release late on Thursday, the court said that the judge accepted the prosecutor’s request for a detention order against the defendants B.SH and M.Q, suspected of espionage.

“The court assessed that the conditions for the appointment of detention have been met, since if the defendants are released, they may be unavailable for criminal proceedings, and there is a risk of escape. Also, the court assessed that, if the defendants will be at liberty, they can destroy, hide, change or falsify the evidence of criminal offenses, or they will obstruct the course of the criminal procedure”, the announcement states.

The Kosovo Prosecutor’s Office announced on June 5 that two Kosovar citizens were arrested after a months-long investigation and that it charges them with the criminal offense of “espionage”. Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police confiscated weapons, ammunition and military gas masks in the two locations where these two suspects were arrested in Ferizaj.

The Basic Court said on Thursday that the defendant M.Q. set the measure of one month’s detention also due to a second criminal offense with which he is charged, unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons.

She said that the parties have the right to appeal against the court’s decision. The Kosovar authorities have not provided details on this case.
