The issue of suspicious ballots from the November 9 runoff elections in South Mitrovica was at the center of discussion during today’s meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

CEC Chair Kreshnik Radoniqi explained that the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP/PZAP) has requested clarification regarding specific ballots. According to him, such clarification can only be provided through a formal opening of the ballot boxes.

“The ECAP has asked for answers regarding specific ballots, and the only way to provide those answers is by opening the boxes. The boxes can only be opened through a designated commission — we cannot provide a specific response without opening them first. The CEC has the professionalism to assess the ballots, verify their authenticity, and provide a report regarding their originality,” Radoniqi stated.

The suspicions of vote manipulation in Mitrovica surfaced on Monday, November 10, when counting at the local results center was suspended after investigators entered the facility following reports of irregularities.

The case has raised serious concerns about the integrity and transparency of the electoral process, with calls growing louder for full verification of the ballots and a transparent investigation to ensure public trust in the final results.
