A suspicious package was discovered near the U.S. Capitol, just 8 kilometers away in Washington, DC, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to DailyMail that experts were called in to investigate the contents of the package, which remain unidentified.
The area has been cordoned off, with bomb disposal teams currently working at the scene. At the same time, additional security measures have been put in place around the Capitol building in preparation for the certification of the 2024 Presidential Election, which is set to take place on Monday in Congress.
