Sveçla in Brussels Discusses Prevention of Violent Extremism, Highlights Kosovo’s Experience with Returning ISIS Citizens

Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, participated in the 23rd GCERF Board meeting in Brussels, where discussions focused on preventing violent extremism and strengthening collective security.

During the meeting, Sveçla shared Kosovo’s experiences in the return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of citizens who had joined conflict zones, emphasizing that security challenges are constantly evolving and require continuous engagement, inter-institutional cooperation, and strong international partnerships.

“In this panel, I highlighted that political will was the key prerequisite for Kosovo’s success in the repatriation and reintegration of 123 of our citizens from northern Syria. This was a process we led with responsibility and commitment, prioritizing the safety and future of our citizens,” Sveçla stated.

Kosovo’s Approach and Achievements

Sveçla presented Kosovo’s leadership and tangible results in handling returning citizens, with a special focus on protecting women and children.

At a press conference organized by GCERF, he showcased Kosovo’s achievements, which have been positively reflected in international reports, reinforcing the country’s role as a regional example for best practices in security and reintegration.

He underlined Kosovo’s ongoing commitment to global security initiatives and emphasized that:
