The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs held an inter-institutional workshop focused on activities of the Technical Assistance Financing Facility (TAFF 1 and TAFF 2), aimed at strengthening Kosovo’s capacities in disaster prevention, preparedness, and response.
Participants highlighted that these initiatives directly enhance risk analysis, early warning systems, national emergency preparedness, and disaster risk management, including fire and natural hazard mitigation.
Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, emphasized the strategic importance of these projects:
“These initiatives strongly contribute to building Kosovo’s capacity to manage risks and respond to disasters. National preparedness is the foundation of any state’s security. Investing in it protects lives, the environment, the economy, and our future. Kosovo is committed to establishing a sustainable, coordinated, and proactive system that prioritizes prevention and rapid response in public policy.”
Genc Metaj, Director of the Emergency Management Agency, underlined that the TAFF projects are crucial steps toward modernizing Kosovo’s systems in line with European standards. He highlighted improvements in institutional capacities at both central and local levels, as well as in planning, coordination, and early warning mechanisms.
The TAFF 1 and TAFF 2 projects are funded by the European Commission – DG ECHO and implemented by the World Bank in cooperation with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR).
