Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has addressed recent reports of multiple police commander replacements in municipalities such as Lipjan, Suharekë, and Klinë. He emphasized the importance of institutional strength and self-improvement within the Kosovo Police.

“The Kosovo Police is the most credible guiding institution in the Republic of Kosovo. This credibility is due to the tireless work of all its members—both active and former,” Sveçla stated in an interview with Dukagjini.

He praised the force’s commitment to self-assessment and improvement, saying:

“Any action aimed at raising quality, readiness, and the overall success of Kosovo—we fully support it.”

Legal Measures May Follow

When asked whether the Ministry of Internal Affairs might take further steps in response to recent developments, Sveçla confirmed that action is under consideration, always within legal bounds.

“Of course. We consider it necessary to act, always within our legal competencies,” he said.

Background: Fatal Incident in Lipjan

The comments come in the aftermath of a tragic police intervention in Lipjan on 7 July 2025, where 27-year-old Agon Zejnullahu lost his life shortly after midnight during a police operation—an event that has shaken public opinion and raised questions about police procedures and accountability.

Sveçla’s remarks suggest that the recent reshuffles may be connected to performance reviews and public concern over the Lipjan incident, though no formal linkage has been confirmed.
