Switzerland: 3.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Valais, 10 Kilometers from Mürren

The Swiss Seismological Service has reported an earthquake 10 kilometers southeast of Mürren BE, at a depth of 7.6 kilometers. The earthquake occurred at 1:30 PM. According to the Seismological Service, the quake registered a magnitude of approximately 3.1 on the Richter scale, as reported by albinfo.ch.

The tremor in the canton of Valais was clearly felt near the epicenter, according to reports. The information was verified by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich following an automated alert.

The earthquake struck 10 kilometers from Mürren in Valais.

Given the magnitude, no damage is expected, the SED added. The Seismological Service registers between 1,000 and 1,500 earthquakes each year in Switzerland and surrounding countries. On average, the population feels about 10 to 20 earthquakes annually with magnitudes of at least 2.5 or higher.
