Severe difficulties were recorded today in road traffic due to harsh weather conditions. In Bettmeralp, canton of Valais, and in First, Grindelwald, canton of Bern, residents woke up to a landscape blanketed in snow.
According to Meteo Schweiz, the snow line fluctuates between 1,800 and 2,100 meters, while in the western and southern Alps, snowfall has reached up to 50 centimeters.
Due to heavy snow, the Gotthard Pass has been closed in both directions, along with the Tiefenbach–Gletsch and Wassen–Meiringen roads, which remain impassable.
While the mountains are experiencing snowfall, the lowlands of Switzerland have been hit by rain. Forecasts indicate that Sunday will be mostly dry, with temperatures expected to reach up to 18°C in some areas.
