The Swiss government is halting its development aid programs for Albania.
This decision, which also includes Bangladesh and Zambia, comes after the parliament allocated less funding for foreign aid in December than the government had requested.
According to swissinfo, the parliament reduced the international cooperation budget by 121 million dollars for 2025, which it says affects bilateral cooperation, economic relations, and multilateral organizations.
The Federal Council was informed about the cuts to international cooperation on Wednesday.
As a result, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will end its bilateral development programs with Albania, Bangladesh, and Zambia by the end of 2028.
From 2025 to 2028, there will also be significant cuts to local and thematic programs and organizations.
However, humanitarian aid and assistance to Ukraine will remain unaffected.
