The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic has issued an official statement following its decision to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

According to the statement, a tripartite meeting was held in Riyadh between representatives of Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Kosovo, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and mutual understanding, including the issue of reciprocal recognition and the opening of new horizons of cooperation.

“In this context, the Syrian Arab Republic announces its official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on the belief in the right of peoples to self-determination and the commitment to strengthening the principles of peace and stability in the Balkans and in the world,” the declaration reads.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this decision is part of Syria’s new foreign policy approach, aiming to broaden cooperation and openness with countries around the world, to serve common interests and to strengthen friendly relations among peoples.

Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani confirmed the news earlier today, expressing gratitude to the Syrian authorities for this historic step and underlining that Kosovo continues to gain recognition and support as a sovereign, democratic state committed to peace and partnership.
