Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, has publicly commented on the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by the Syrian Arab Republic, highlighting the role of Saudi Arabia and Turkey in facilitating the diplomatic breakthrough.

Posting on X, Minister Al-Shaibani stated:

“Under the patronage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and with the support of Turkey, the Syrian Arab Republic announced the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state, reaffirming respect for sovereignty and the right of peoples to self-determination.”

The announcement comes shortly after President Vjosa Osmani, speaking from Riyadh, revealed that Syria had officially recognized Kosovo’s independence — making it the 120th country to do so.

This recognition marks a significant diplomatic milestone for Kosovo, achieved amid growing engagement with the Arab and Muslim world.

Following the news, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and several opposition leaders also reacted, expressing gratitude and calling it an important step toward strengthening Kosovo’s international legitimacy and partnerships.
