The head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog, who is at the end of his mandate, has spoken about Serbia’s efforts to compare the terrorist attack in Banjska with the killing of a Serbian policeman by a Kosovo prison escapee.
In an interview for T7, he says that for the EU, these cases are completely different and points out that the group of the terrorist attack in Banjska was organized.
“Those two cases are completely different and I think they should not be compared for us. The activity of the Banjska criminal group was organized. But Banjska was clearly carried out by a well-organized criminal group and this is proven if you look at the magnitude in the number of people involved, the number of confiscated cars, the number of weapons and ammunition. This is clearly not comparable to the activities of an individual, who is clearly known to have been a criminal and who recently escaped from prison.”
On July 19, Serbian authorities said they had killed Faton Hajrizi, the suspect in the killing of a policeman in Serbia and the wounding of another. Since July 6, Faton Hajrizi had been wanted by the Kosovo authorities, after he had escaped from Smerkonica prison.
