Ten of the most dangerous illegal immigrants have arrived at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, where they are being held under strict surveillance by immigration officers in anticipation of their deportation to their home countries. The Pentagon confirmed on Wednesday that the immigrants, described as “high-risk,” arrived the previous day at the U.S. military detention center.
These individuals, whose identities and nationalities were not disclosed, were transferred from the Fort Bliss military base in Texas on Tuesday via a military aircraft. The Pentagon stated that this transfer is a temporary measure while the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency works to ensure these high-risk individuals are deported to their countries of origin or other suitable destinations.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, shared images of the immigrants on social media, referring to them as “among the worst” and indicating that the process of deporting them has just begun.
Connections to Criminal Organizations
It was later revealed that some of the transferred immigrants are members of the notorious Venezuelan gang “Tren de Aragua,” which has international reach. The White House has announced plans to designate this group as a foreign terrorist organization due to its criminal activities.
Noem also noted that the Department of Homeland Security is responsible for the arrests of convicted murderers, rapists, child abusers, drug traffickers, MS-13 members, and cartel affiliates, highlighting the high-profile nature of the individuals involved.
Guantanamo’s Role in the New Policy
Following an executive order from President Trump last month, the Pentagon has deployed 300 soldiers to Guantanamo Bay to create facilities to house these dangerous immigrants. Tents have been set up in a secure area within the U.S. Naval Base, though they are not yet ready to accommodate the detainees.
Guantanamo Bay is historically known for holding military prisoners and suspected terrorists, including those involved in the September 11 attacks and Taliban members. Under the new directive, President Trump has instructed the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare the facility to house up to 30,000 illegal immigrants.
“Some of them are so dangerous that we do not trust other countries to hold them because we don’t want them to return. So, we will send them to Guantanamo,” said President Trump.
