Multiple media outlets in Albania have reported that Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, the second-in-command in Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government, is under investigation by the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) over alleged irregularities in public tenders.

According to Gazeta Tema, SPAK’s spokesperson Ada Heqimi neither confirmed nor denied the investigation, stating briefly:

“The Special Prosecution has nothing to share with the media.”

Several Albanian news outlets citing “confidential sources within SPAK” claim that Balluku has been registered as a person under investigation for “violation of equality in public tenders.”

Reports further suggest that the Deputy Prime Minister in the Rama 4 cabinet has been summoned to appear before SPAK on Monday, following a formal notice signed by Special Prosecutor Dritan Prençi.

The summons was reportedly delivered to Balluku at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, where she also serves as minister.

While official confirmation is still pending, the alleged probe has sparked political debate and public scrutiny, raising fresh questions about transparency and accountability within Albania’s government.
