A 50-year-old man of Saudi origin, a doctor who had been living in Germany since 2006, was arrested yesterday evening in the eastern German town of Magdeburg. He is accused of carrying out a terrorist attack at the city’s Christmas market by driving his vehicle into crowds of people.
At least four people were killed in the attack, and more than 68 others were injured, 15 of them in critical condition, according to international media reports.
A Saudi source told Reuters that Saudi Arabia had warned German authorities about the attacker after he posted extremist views on his personal X account, which threatened peace and security.
According to German media, the arrested individual is Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, a psychiatrist by profession. Describing himself as an ex-Muslim, the suspected perpetrator shared dozens of posts on Twitter every day, focusing on anti-Islamic themes.
He frequently criticized the religion and had reportedly turned into a far-right extremist, although this information is yet to be confirmed by local authorities.
Police emphasized that the vehicle traveled “at least 400 meters along the Christmas market,” leaving behind a trail of bloodied victims, debris, and shattered glass in the central square of the city’s town hall.
